Building a Community Beyond the Campus

Maryville Online gives students the flexibility to earn a degree from home, on their own schedule, without stepping foot on a campus. But how do you make online students feel like they belong to something, when they're scattered across living rooms, kitchen tables, and home offices all over the country?

We built an online community for them. A feed built around real people, real stories, and content that met students where they were, whether they needed encouragement, inspiration, practical advice, or just a reminder that they weren't doing this alone.

Real Students, Real Stories

Collage of professional profile cards featuring women and men, with quotes and social media hashtags, celebrating Women's History Month and academic achievements, set against a gradient pink and blue background.

Authentic faces, genuine quotes, and honest experiences did two things at once. For current students, it made them feel seen and celebrated, a reminder that their story mattered. For prospective students, it made the decision feel achievable, proof that people just like them were already doing it and thriving.

Tools for the Journey

Three posters with tips related to mental health and volunteering, featuring illustrations of hands and an ear. The first poster discusses becoming a better listener, the second offers tips for managing anxiety, and the third provides tips for finding volunteer opportunities.

Online learning comes with its own set of challenges, and these posts were designed to help students navigate them. Study tips, productivity advice, and mental health reminders gave the feed a practical side that showed Maryville Online cared about more than just enrollment. Small gestures that added up to something bigger: a brand genuinely invested in how its students were doing.

Empowered to Succeed

A collection of inspirational and motivational posters related to Black History Month and personal development, featuring quotes from notable figures, illustrations of women, and symbols of achievement and perseverance.

These posts mixed motivational quotes, celebrations of inspiring figures, and interactive prompts designed to uplift and encourage. More than just inspiration, they gave the community a shared sense of purpose and a reminder that the people around them were rooting for their success.

The Numbers Behind the Degree

Three informational posters about COVID-19 pandemic statistics and trends displayed on a wall. The first poster features an illustration of a woman wearing glasses with text about upskilling boosting employee confidence. The second shows a map of the United States with statistics on cyber attacks in 2020. The third provides data on workers' plans to seek new opportunities post-pandemic.

Choosing to go back to school is a big decision, and sometimes people just need to be reassured that it's a worthy investment. These posts highlighted job growth, salary potential, and the rising demand for degrees in fields Maryville Online offers. For prospective students it made the decision easier to justify. For current students it was a reminder that they were on the right path.

More Ways to Connect

Blurred background with gradient transition from blue on the left to pink on the right.

The same content strategy that lived in the feed also translated into short form video, reaching a new audience who spend their time scrolling through Reels rather than their regular social feed. Student stories, motivation, tips, and degree highlights, all brought to life in a format built for discovery and designed to pause the scroll.

Joining the Conversation

Three posters on a wall, from left to right: one with colorful pens with the hashtag #MARYVILLEONLINE, one with a bed and the words "HELLO YOU", and one with a laptop, headphones, notebook, and a water bottle, with the text MARYVILLE ONLINE.

Being an online student doesn't mean living in a bubble. These posts tapped into the trends, moments, and cultural conversations already happening in students' feeds, giving Maryville Online a way to show up as more than just an academic institution. A brand that understood what students were watching, talking about, and laughing at.
